Profile

I am currently a second year MSc physiotherapy student studying at the University of Essex. I chose physiotherapy as a profession due to my own previous experiences through injury and witnessed the benefits of musculoskeletal and respiratory physiotherapy has had on my own family. I have had the opportunity to work in an inpatient setting on an orthopaedic ward as a physiotherapy assistant which fueled my decision to pursue this as a career. I am looking forward to putting the skills I have learnt on my course into action in my job role as a physiotherapist in a hospital setting when I graduate.

Introduction

Welcome to my portfolio, this will detail my progression throughout my journey as a MSc Physiotherapy (pre-registration) student at the University of Essex.

This portfolio is will be based on the Physiotherapy Framework developed by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) (1). This framework is comprised of 17 fields, with each of them being represented over the forthcoming pages, except the NHS values field, which will be detailed throughout the framework. The knowledge, skills and behaviours I have obtained over the past 2 years which will be detailed in narrative form for each of the 17 fields and supplemented by evidence on each page. The key requirements from the Physiotherapy Framework will be highlighted in yellow text throughout the portfolio (1). This will build a clear picture of my scope of practice (SoP), and in the context of each subject field will enable myself to demonstrate that I have met the entry-level requirements to graduate within the standards of the Physiotherapy Framework, with all evidence being referred to within this ePortfolio written in bold text to make it clear how each descriptor is being evidenced throughout (1).

The NHS values depicted within the Physiotherapy Framework are: Altruism, advocacy, compassion and caring, honesty and integrity, fulfillment of duty of care, social responsibility, commitment to excellence of care. These aforementioned NHS values will be highlighted in blue text throughout the narrative of this portfolio (1). Furthermore, these aforementioned values reinforce four 4 key principles within the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Code of Members Professional Values and behaviors: taking responsibility for own actions, behaving ethically, delivering an effective service and striving to achieve excellence; these principles and sections are of a supplementary nature and will be depicted in pink (1,2). In addition, the following CSP standards, we must ensure we comply meet the necessary standards and proficiencies of the health and care professions council (HCPC) which will be highlighted in green when represented (3).

Confidentiality has been adhered to throughout through not showing any other persons face other than mine and all names of hospitals, locations or names have been redacted in order to maintain anonymity for all. All mandatory components for this ePortfolio can be found easily below this introduction section to ensure quick and efficient access for anyone viewing.
